10 Reasons Why Kosovo Is The Best Country To Live

Kosovo might be the best country in Europe to live. The state is beautiful, safe, cheap and kind. Here is a list with 10 reasons why Kosovo is the best place to live.

1) Incredible nature

The nature in Kosovo is incredible. Mountains surround you and there are 10-reasons-incredible-naturewaterfalls to visit. Although the weather can already be very warm in April, there still might be snow on the top of the mountains.

2) Their coffee is great

Although Caffè Macchiato is an Italian invention, rumors around the internet are clear: the coffee in Kosovo is great. And in case you don’t like it, the price is just between 50 cents and a euro.

3) People are so friendly

The kind atmosphere in Kosovo is amazing. Everywhere you go, people greet you respectfully and ask how you are. They might ask in three to five kosovo-religiondifferent ways how you are, before they will start talking. Just smile, if you don’t understand their questions.

4) Mild form of practicing faith

The majority of Kosovars have a religious background, most of them will consider themselves Muslim, and some of them Catholic. In general, everyone practices their faith in a mild form. Extreme ways of practicing religion is very rare. Believers of different religions live in harmony together.

5) Young people everywhere

Kosovo has the youngest population in Europe, and that means young people everywhere. So you never have to search longer than two Gjakova-old-town-barsminutes to find a bar or café.

6) Shops open for long hours

Little shops and supermarkets are open for long hours. Many of them, even seven days a week till late night. So, no worries when you suddenly have guests coming over, or when you have forgotten to buy milk for the baby.

7) Delicious food

Feeling hungry? Kosovo is the place to eat very cheap and good. A good thing to try qebab. For just a euro or a bit more, they offer you fresh bread, meat and vegetables. You can find a qebabtore on every street corner.kosovo-qebab

8) Flexible attitude on the road

While driving in Kosovo, people are very flexible. Does another car block a part of the road? No worries, Kosovars drive around it, without complaining or honking. In general, people in Kosovo don’t drive like people in the West, but they do treat other drivers in a calmly way.

9) Popular Albanian beaches are close

Kosovo offers several tourism highlights, including nature parks, statues, religious heritage and traditional centers. In case you want to see more, neighboring countries

with their great cities and beaches are just around the corner.

10) Kosovars love kids

Kids are king in Kosovo. And this is very handy. Many cafés, restaurants and supermarkets offer spaces for kids to play and have fun. And if not: Kosovars love kids, so if you bring your child to Kosovo, don’t be surprised if they get lots of attention and kindness from waiters or supermarket managers.

  1. Each of these statements is absolutely true! I lived in Kosove for 5yrs – now back in UK I miss the coffee (no where can do a coffee as good as a Kosovar macchiato), I miss the fresh, tasty street food (qebapa, qufta & burgers to die for), driving up the mountains, especially in summer where it’s sooo hot in town but cool, clean & fresh just a 1/2 hr drive away. Most of all….I miss the people.

  4. Well i wouldn’t say the best place to live. Except the fact that is cheap nothing else is true. Only city worthy of visiting is Prizren. The rest there is nothing to see. Beautiful nature? Ok in certain degree but then again all the Balkan countries have beautiful nature. The coast of Albania, Montenegro and Croatia, mountains in Bosnia and Macedonia, Danube in Serbia and etc. If it was so nice to live there how come Kosovo has the highest number of unemployment rate in whole Europe and is the most corrupted country? (not the rest of Balkan is not) Every young person dreams of getting that visa and go to Germany, Sweden or Switzerland. So excuse me if i dont share the enthusiasm of Kosovo being the best country to live. At the current situation is the worst country to live due to lack of infrastructure, poor economy and education system and political stability. No hating just pointing out facts. Viva la Balkan

    • Excuse me you Mr/Mrs but before talking about how Kosovo is not a developed country I suggest you to just think that how many years have passed since it took the indipendence. Except the fact that Kosovo is a very young “country” literally it is gradually developing itself more and more. I can’t understand how come you don’t agree with non of the 10 statements given above. I bet you’ve never seen people more friendly than Kosovars, and I’m pretty sure for that. Oh and since we’re talking about politics, being a person who has travelled a lot, I was given a chance to see how the politics function in nearly 10 countries in Europe. So you absolutely cannot state something like Kosovo has the worst politics ever. To tell you the truth, all of these bad thing happening or bad words said about Kosovo are just because it is a new born or small country. But I can make you sure that Kosovo’s future will be that much brightened that even you are going to change those “narrow” opinions. If you ask how ? I suggest you to just read more and you’ll see that how in every single area the successful people are ALBANIAN. Sport, art, science etc. Also we have a lot of talented children that will lead Kosovo to it’s summit of success. We are the Young Europians, like it or not!

        • There are 92% Albanians that live in Kosovo ,only 4% Serbs ,1% Bosnians ,1% Turks and 2% others .
Lets take for example Germany ,that only 80% of the total populations are native Germans .
          France ,89% French .
          England 85% .
There is no country in Europe that has more native residents than Kosovo has Albanians ,but none of them call themselves in the name of the minorities .

          • That is because Kosovo Army did the successful ethnical cleansing.
Pointing out that country is so ethnically “clean” is not a good thing, and I m not sure you should that pride in it. Diversity is good, which Kosovo lacks at the moment.
Every representative at every level is of Albanian heritage – so, do not talk ho Serbs were not and are not repressed! Even Croatia gave more rights to Serbian minority.
The social consciousness is at a very low level at the moment, nationalism is very high. Crime is enormous. institutions weak.
Yes, nature is good, coffee is tasty, people friendly to everyone who is not Serb/Macedonian/Montenegrian/Croat.
What you see is “foreign investments” I see as Western countries vulturing – and that goes for all Balkan countries! What used to be Yugoslavia -one of the most progressive countries in Europe is just bunch of US-colonized little states. The unemployment rates are high, salaries the lowest in Europe, the “brain drain” the highest, emigration rates enormous. Those countries are in deep problem. So, no need for glorification!
The countries are good for holidays, visiting, enjoying – but when it comes to good quality of life, decent salaries, democracy, political consciousness – I am sorry they are far from best countries to live. One exception – Slovenia.

    • Hi Balkanian, Kosovo is having a hard time financially, what country isn’t!? But, regardless , it is a great place to live, children and citizens live free of crime, 90% of the time anyway, of course there is bad things every where in the world, but we are speaking in general, it is a very peaceful place to live, because kosovars are happy, kind, generous people, regardless if they’re poor or rich! Our children play in parks without having to worry if anyone will kidnap or do horrible things to them. Family’s don’t divorce easily, family’s help each other, neighbors are treated like family. Geez, should I keep going lol oh and for your comment how people go to Germany, Switzerland, or anywhere else, guess what, like I said above, financially right now it’s not that great, so people go find jobs, work to support their families instead of waiting around for welfare, they are hard workers, and don’t wait for hand outs like some people do in USA for example. But, they always go back to Kosovo to live happily ever after 😉

I m telling you, Americans are among hardest working people in the world! After Japan, Germany., etc, working hours are longest in USA, they barely have ANY holidays.

        • This comment thread has digressed quite a bit. So I’ll throw my 2 cents in. If the developed world were a skyscraper, the US would be the parking garage. No universal healthcare, no paid maternity leave and hardly any vacations are nothing to be proud of. If the immigrants from central America and Mexico quit working for a month the US economy would collapse. Yes, many Americans work hard because they can barely make ends meet working two and three part time jobs…part time because business owners have to pay for benefits of full time workers.

My reply back to them is if you are Russian they will treat you better, other nationalities are not welcomed in Serbia or Macedonia which is opposite in Kosovo we don’t like Russians to visit our country. Come and visit Kosovo you will be surprised with hospitality, good food, and nice places to visit.

  6. I have been to Kosovo 5 timea. As an azerbaijani guy,I must say that we have a lot in common, specially regarding culture and customs. I had a great time in Kosovo. Machiato is just irressistable and it is very cheap! People are nice! The one can notice the lack of well-established infrastructure and high level of life, however people seem so cheerful and positive(unlike in France and Azerbaijan). It is what I love mostly about Kosovo 🙂

  7. I got a good laugh out of this article. Kosova is nowhere near the best place to live in Europe, it’s a shit-hole. I just had to lose it at #10; that sounds like something a pedophile would say. I don’t see how #4 is supposed to be something to really be proud of anyway, other places in just Europe alone have moved past racial and religious differences. The UK is made up of many many people of different ethniticies. Not being shunned because of religion? What a privelage. And again, people being friendly? Nothing special, and from my experience it’s not particularly true. The rest of the points here aren’t even worth going over. For the love of God, don’t move here. There’s ten times the negative points to counteract these.

  8. I hope that the next century will bring to Kosovo the “10 Reasons Why Kosovo Is The Best Country To Live”, so today I would rather change the name “reasons” by “wishes”.

Kosovo has become a big shit in the middle of Europe. Someone would say the is a big shit but it’s “my independent big shit”. Anyhow, it was a tremendous mistake to claim the independence and to get it with the ilegal support of a bunch of countries. The result is clear: now that Kosovo is independent, every kosovar wants to go away from there to corrupt and spoil other countries.

Knowing what we have been through….So people in kosovo still haven’t got cured from the Serbian corruption…. seriously… it was so bad that ull be shocked… that’s y in kosovo people have problems with trusting the government…

  10. I need to give also my opinion. I was working and living in Kosovo for 2,5 years and I had more bad then good experience. I was working in Hani & Elezit, Strpce, Vitina, Mitrovica,Klokot,Gracanica and on few places. Yes,nature is nice but just Brezovica which is more Serbian population and food is just good in Serbian enclaves like in Gracanica and all around Gracanica. All NATO soldiers are there every day to eat domestic food. Yes,coffe is good and everything is cheap! But people are corrupted and I mean all of them. That is normal there. Like you go every day for coffee. We had subcontractor who blackmailed us from the start. We signed the contract with them and they didn’t want to work. When we wanted to bring another subcontractor they didn’t aloud to bring on the site another contract. Tottaly corruption everywhere. I had car crush for which I wasn’t fault and I had to pay the judge 90 eur to get back my driving licence. I also once called police because I had conflict wit one of the bosses of our subcontractors and police didn’t do anything! 60% of people don’t have car licence and they don’t know to drive! Roads are awfull, everywhere is dirty and it is big pollution because of power plant in Obilic. I was living in the capital city and if I open my window I have dust in within 3 hours. You do not have place to run or just go somewhere in the park, because they have one small park. Americans are protecting Kosovo because Kosovo is on good position to control Afghanistan and it has lots of minerals. So Americans are just exploit Kosovo. You can write whatever you want after that and I will just reply with smile, because this is today’s reality of Kosovo and I don’t see future for the young people, except if they are not from rich families!

Every single Norwegian is in deep debt.Roads in Norway are not much better than n Kosovo, now Norway is according to the UN the best country to live. Kosovo got rid of the Serbian agressors just 15 yrs ago. Now you decide what the future will be for those two countries.

  13. It is a young country and also not a rich country. Corruption is unavoilable like any other poor contries in the world. If you work for the government and you don’t get paid for your basic expenses to live, what else can you do ! I think it is not the nature that people in Kosovo are corrupted. I think it is a real shame if people in those rich countries are corrupted. I’ve planned to travel to Kosovo in July and looking foreward to experience the country.

IMHOThe idea of growing in mounds is bad practise , preferably the garden plot should be flat with a small moot circling each plant to retain water and focus on each plants root system , with mounding theres is water run off . 16. Hi I am from the Philippines and wanted to go to Kosovo because i fell in love with an Albanian who lives and works there. I wanted to live and work there as well but my boyfriend discourages me because of the kind of economy and the high rate of unemployment. After reading all of the comments, I can say that all countries even those rich ones have their own problems regarding corruption and economic growth. What matters are the people living in that country. If it’s a safe country with minimal crime rate, then i guess it would be a good place to live in. Being a country in transition, it would be understandable having a poor economy. What matters is that everybody is trying to help improve their lives. With the recent studies i read about the economic growth of Kosovo, all of it have positive reports. Each year, Kosovo’s economy is growing and that is a good sign. I really love my boyfriend and would love to stay and live with him. Is teaching English a good profession there?

    Reply
    • Dear Mary, thank you for your long comment. It’s absolutely true: the economy is and keeps growing. And the country is very safe. Concerning your question: teaching English is a good profession, but the problem is that there are already a lot of teachers, also from foreign countries. Anyway, if you have a good plan in Kosovo, you can let it happen.

Only problem the stray dogs and cats are not appreciated there and many have been poisoned and killed.. people should realise dogs and cats make wonderful pets especially for children but sadly not in Kosovo…they also have a right to live and many strays should have been neutered long ago to solve the unwanted strays, it’s the only way but not killing them, it just does not work..and now I know there is a rescue who help but many dogs seek homes overseas and not in Kosovo which is wrong as other countries have their own problem..

When I read that Kosovars love kids in this article I recall that I viewed on you tube commercials for a high end department store in Kosovo called Gorenje that I noticed in some videos is that in the indoor parking lot and/or in the store itself that kids can ride on these scooter like vehicles. Of course these kids require parental or adult supervision and I believe that most stores & shopping centers don’t offer such amenities in other or certain other countries.

I love the xurrenxyy even though the country is still not much of exposure but the currency is very good.

I love the fact that I hear is a nice place and cool.

I want to say that the people in Kosovo don’t give up on your country no matter what. Fight to keep it great. Don’t let the foolishness and bitter heart of other people scatter your faith. I feel in my heart with time the whole world will want to come to Kosovo to live in.

Don’t give up the smile, don’t give up the love don’t give up on your country. Kosovo is “you” you must fight and be strong for it to stand because in the future your children will never forget your great works.

    Tell yourselves always. .
You will never give up, never give in never quit until my country is fully stand and victory is enforced.
